“Working with ForwardCulture has been a really fun experience. They were professional and the team were efficient and punctual. We really needed ForwardCulture to come in and work with our students because they gained so much and there was a space for students to open up in an informal way. ”
The BROWNGIRL Project 2018
In January 2018, we launched and completed a pilot project at City and Islington College in collaboration with three female artists from South Asian backgrounds of different disciplines. Week by week, each artist enabled a group of BROWNGIRLS come out of their shell, and gave them the opportunity to not only express themselves creatively through poetry, photography or writing, but also created a safe and engaging space where the participants could explore themes around personal belonging and identity.
We're looking forward to collaborating with more artists and schools, and ultimately encouraging young brown women to be curious and confident.
“I really enjoyed expressing myself and being open, even if it was to strangers and having help and advice and knowing other people deal with the same issues.”
